Parissa and Ensamble

Tirgan Festival is proud to announce that Parissa, the Grande Dame of Iranian classical music will perform live at Tirgan Festival 2019. The legendary Parissa is accompanied by her masterful ensemble of musicians including Pejman Hadadi, Ali Pajooheshgar, Amir Hosein Pourjavady and Saeed Kamjoo.Parissa is a master vocalist of classical Persian music (radif) who continues to play a singular role in promoting, preserving, and elevating the best in classical Persian music. Radif is based on improvisation within a modal structure known as dastgah. Her skill rests in the extemporaneous vocal ornamentation of this basic melodic framework. Parissa's innovative approach with soft, contemplative gestures in her voice and mastery of this form has won her a passionate following in Iran and abroad. Parissa has been barred from performing publicly in Iran since 1979, though she has many students and performs frequently on the international stage. For her performance at Tirgan Festival 2019, Parissa takes a mystical journey in the dastgāh of Māhur and Āvāz-e Esfahān before returning to Māhur. She will be singing poems from Hafiz, Sa'di, and Mowlana (Rumi). The separation of humanity from the Source and the struggle of return to its original abode is a central theme in Persian classical poetry as well as in Parissa's sublime art, and this program is no exception. Her voice will convey profound spiritual concepts, passion for love, the beloved and praising of the beauty of nature. The rich imagery of the words comes alive through Parissa's moving rendition of the poetry. With her soaring vocals and adherence to the classical style, Parissa has been heralded as one of the most important Persian musicians today. Tirgan is delighted to be celebrating Parissa in a concert full of memory and mysticism at Tirgan Festival 2019.
